Concept Arboriculture is a Norfolk-based arboricultural consultancy serving East Anglia, the East Midlands, London and the South East. Concept Arboriculture is managed by Jonathan Ives BSc (Hons) Tech. Arbor. A.
Jonathan has been working with trees for over 25 years and has extensive experience of tree management both in the public and private sector.
On average 6 people per year are killed by falling trees in the UK. Whilst this is a relatively low figure in nearly all circumstances the tree or part of tree concerned had defects which could have been foreseen and dealt with before the incident occurred.
In England and Wales tree owners are liable for personal injury or damage if a tree fails by breaking or falling and the incident was foreseeable. This liability is governed by The Occupiers Liability Act (1957) & (1984) which places a duty of care upon tree owners to act reasonably in maintaining their trees by way of regular inspections and appropriate management to uphold safety.
At Concept Arboriculture we employ Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) techniques to inspect potentially hazardous trees and make recommendations for management that are both reasonable and proportionate to the risk. VTA is concerned with both the structural and physiological health of the tree and at Concept Arboriculture we have an extensive knowledge of pests and diseases which affect native and non-native trees which can lead to tree failure.
All surveys are undertaken by LANTRA qualified Professional Tree Inspectors to ensure that structural and physiological defects are assessed with recommendations for action made as necessary (in accordance with BS 3998: 2010 Tree Work recommendations).
Tree hazard surveys are accompanied by a detailed plan of the site clearly indicating zones of high, medium and low risk.
Where necessary we can help with the tendering process for undertaking tree works as well as making the necessary enquiries/arrangements with the Local Authority where trees are protected by Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or Conservation Area status.
If you own a woodland we can help you manage it according to your needs and budget with an emphasis on safe and sustainable use.
Management plans can be created to highlight areas for felling, planting and natural regeneration in addition to balancing safety issues with nature conservation. We can help advise on the best way to diversify your woodland increasing the age and species profile which in turn will increase its overall health, amenity and bio-diversity.
At Concept Arboriculture we are experienced in surveying and giving professional arboricultural advice on a range of sites containing one to over 1000 trees. We can help to overcome tree related issues whether it be for a single storey extension or a large scale development and provide the following services:
All survey work is carried out in accordance with B.S. 5837:2012 Recommendations for trees in relation to design, demolition and construction.
Sharing nature with children is one of the most rewarding activities possible and the earlier a child connects with the natural world the healthier and more rounded they become in later life.
Introducing the natural world and exploring natural processes is particularly effective with Early Years and KS1 and KS2 students with tailored activities which show measurable progress and outcomes.
At Concept Arboriculture we can help your school and pupils realise a range of activities and features that are cost effective and sustainable such as:
All activities are backed by site specific risk assessments and enhanced DBS checked instructors.
In addition to the above Concept Arboriculture also offers guided walks and talks within school grounds with a particular emphasis on trees and the wildlife that relies upon them. These are both informal and informative and suitable for all age groups.
In areas that are underlain by shrinkable sub soils trees and other vegetation can cause or contribute to soil drying which leads to damaged foundations, drains and other built structures.
Subsidence damage can be very complex and expensive to resolve and prevention is far preferable to cure so at Concept Arboriculture we undertake vegetation surveys to assess current as well as future risks.
In consultation with loss adjusters and structural engineers we can advise on remedial works as necessary whether that be tree removal or cyclical pruning regimes. In cases where third party trees are involved we can also advise on insurance and litigation issues.
Buying a house can be a stressful business and often issues arise at the last minute which can cause unnecessary delays. Trees are a particular case in point where a surveyor may indicate that a particular tree in the garden or that of the neighbours poses a potential risk to the property being sold.
In such cases it is usually the mortgage lender which will insist upon the potential purchaser supplying a tree survey prior to completion.
At Concept Arboriculture we can provide a professional survey on behalf of the purchaser which covers all trees within influencing distance of the property with clear and sensible recommendations for management. As reports are often required urgently we offer an express service (36 hours from instruction) to ensure that delays can be avoided.
